What We Believe

This is usually where 'by laws' and 'doctrinal statements' are found on most churchs' websites. Through the leadership of the LORD, we felt the best way to express "what we believe" is through the preaching and teaching brought forth in our own services.

Each of the items below reference sermons and lessons preached and taught by our pastor during services at Home Missionary Baptist Church.

There are two fundamental truths

There is one true omnipotent GOD of the universe.

Revelation 1:8 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

Isaiah 46:9-10 "Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:"

The BIBLE, specifically, the King James Authorized Version, is the preserved, infallible Word of GOD for the English speaking people.

2nd Peter 1:21 "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

Psalms 19:7-8 "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes."

Revelation 22:18-19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

Lessons and Sermons

The God Preserved Word Of God

Deuteronomy 30:10-11 says, "... his commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law. For this commandment, ... it's not hidden from thee neither is it afar off." What is being taught in these verses is God's written word, as written by God, was available and accessible to the people. We have to ask a question. "Do these verses in Deuteronomy apply ONLY to the original manuscripts, or is God's word, as written by God, available and accessible to us today?" To simplify the question, "Do we have God's written word, as he wrote it today?" Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

I Belong To Jesus (The Doctrine of Election)

In this message, Pastor Gordon focuses upon something that Jesus alludes to six times in the prayer. God the Father has given a people to Jesus Christ. In His prayer, Jesus says six times, very plainly, that God the Father gave Him a people. Anyone who believes what the BIBLE says can not possibly deny, without denying the very word of God, that God the Father gave a people to Jesus Christ. What is being taught is known as "The Doctrine of Election". Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

Being The Church People Need

With the BIBLE in hand, listen to this sermon series to learn about how important it is for any church, large or small, to stay focused on the truth of God's word and the objective He has given us. It does matter HOW that objective is accomplished. God DOES care how we worship Him. Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

Nonconformity To The Secular & The Process Of Secularization

In this message, Pastor Gordon exposes how the world, in general, and we, as God's people, can be and have been influenced by the religion of secular humanism and the process of secularism that bombards us daily. It is everywhere in our post-Christian nation and the world. We are warned to, "Be not conformed!" Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

Eschatology

Eschatology is the study of the doctrines concerning the last days ... the end of the world ... as described in the Book of Revelation of the BIBLE. Listen to this sermon series using the BIBLE to reference the scriptures. Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

The Church Covenant

This in depth BIBLE study lesson and accompanying sermon series explains that, through giving the Church Covenant a proper place in our life and the church, we see the seriousness of church membership and the awesome responsibilities it entails. MEMBERSHIP IN ONE OF THE LORD'S CHURCHES IS A SERIOUS ENDEAVOR AND SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN LIGHTLY! Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

BIBLE Study Principles

The BIBLE is the world's greatest, most miraculous, most amazing and most glorious book! Among all the books ever written, the BIBLE stands unique! Today so-called Christianity abounds with superficiality. It is so far removed from what is described in the Bible because of indifference toward the Bible! The spiritual health of a child of God is connected with what they do with the Bible! Click on the item listed in the "Beliefs Index" column to the right.

The Lord's Supper

In this four part series, Pastor Gordon covers the basics of the Lord's supper. While not an indepth study, this series of sermons gives a good overview of the beginning of the Lord's supper, who can partake of it, and the elements used in it's observance. The Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings; faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of, destructive drugs or intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to shun pornography; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another is brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
